The Refugee Law Clinics in Germany
The task of a Refugee Law Clinic (RLC) is to provide free legal advice to asylum seekers and migrants. RLCs are always attached to a University’s Law Faculty – depending on the University, this can reach from close cooperation and strong university support to rather lose attachment.
Legal advice is usually provided by law students who have been trained in asylum law by the RLC. The students are supervised by professors or experienced migration lawyers. Some members continue working in an RLC after their graduation from University.
The RLCs thus consist of current and future scholars and practitioners with a sound knowledge of national and European asylum law. Many RLCs have been founded in the last years in Germany. The concept is increasingly known and supported by Universities and lawyers.
